Hugh Michael Jackson was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on October 12th the 12th of October, 1968. The parents of his father Grace McNeil and Christopher John Jackman were English and had emigrated to Australia in the year 1967. In this way, Jackman not only holds Australian citizenship as well, but British citizenship as well , since his birthplace was in the UK to British-born parents. He has four siblings older than him and a younger half-sister who is from his mother’s divorce. After the divorce of his parents when the age of eight, Jackman remained in Australia with his father and two brothers as his mother retreated back to England with two sisters.
He was a pupil at an all boys Knox Grammar School, in Sydney’s Upper North Shore. Following graduation, he went on to spend an unplanned year in England before returning to Australia to pursue studies at The University of Technology, Sydney. He graduated from the university in 1991, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.
Jackman got married to the actress Deborra Lee Furness in April of 1996. The couple first seen each other on the set of the TV show “Correlli”. After Furness had two miscarriages the couple adopted their children Oscar Maximillian and Ava Eliot.
